Open Door Consulting was founded by Greg Rudd in 1996 who after six years as a senior adviser in the Hawke/Keating Governments found himself with fewer employment opportunities when the Liberal Party came to power. He learned three things from this:
- Plan for the future. In Canberra he had been a good internal lobbyist when working for government so he knew he had the ability to logically transpose that skillset to be a good external lobbyist, representing the private sector when they had issues they needed to get in front of government.
- Business didn't have a very good understanding of how government works. The perception is that if you are Labor/Liberal/National you can't talk to the other side. The reality in politics is that your worst enemies are on your own side and it is easier to talk to the other side because there is no subtext beyond the issue being discussed.
- He decided that Open Door Consulting was going to be 'election-proof'. He would employ consultants who could represent all sides of politics, who were “not blinkered political zealots yet understood the political process, were outcomes driven people and had the social skills to be accepted in all forums."
Today, Open Door Consulting has expanded its traditional Business to Government base. After a combined 50 years of experience and a unique wealth of high level private sector relationships, Open Door Consulting now offers extensive Business to Business services.
